When anxiety becomes excessive and chronic, it begins to interfere with our daily lives and our ability to function and therefore becomes a disorder that must be treated.
Patients suffer from excessive anxiety and worry (apprehensive expectation) about a wide range of events or activities (such as work or school performance), difficulty in controlling the state of constant worry, anxiety, impatience, tendency to fatigability , difficulty in concentrating, irritability, muscle tension and sleeping disorders.
In cases of mild anxiety with short evolution, the aim of acupuncture treatment is to cure the disease with the resolution of symptoms, elimination of drug treatment and prevention of recurrence. In more severe cases, the goal of treatment is to reduce symptoms, with the intent to prevent the development of the pathology and its associated increase in medication.
Acupuncture, through its mediating action on the autonomic nervous system and neurotransmitters, allows in a relatively short time, the reduction or elimination of anxiety disorders, improvement of sleep quality and relaxation of muscles. The feeling of comfort and quiescence is restored from the first sessions, strengthening confidence in the efficacy of treatment. The reduction of anxiety is associated, in a second step, to the gradual discontinuation of medication.
Acupuncture treatment for anxiety disorders can be applied in chronic anxiety as well as in an acute onset.
